As I put the finishing touches on a minicomic about drawing dinosaurs on a sidewalk (Day of the Brontosaurus, featuring Those Kids!), here’s a photograph I took last week of a dinosaur drawn on a driveway. The local artist doesn’t have to worry– I finished the pages with the sidewalk drawings some time ago so I won’t be taking too much inspiration from this excellent work. Because, frankly, my own dinosaurs would only be improved by bright magenta bellies and spiky triangular crests. Not to mention a sky filled with fireworks, lightning bolts and sliced watermelons.
(Taken with the phone camera, right before it started to rain. The light was sublime on the bright colors of a really good grade of sidewalk chalk. The swirly bits are a touch of the warp brush to redact the artist’s names. Street art is public art and a legitimate subject for street photography, but I think you have to balance that with an effort at anonymity for artists you suspect to be under age.)
