This isn’t that last rose to bloom in the big garden. The big thorny red rose is always the last, and as of yesterday it still had one flower left. It won’t be there today, after last night’s windstorm.
The white rose bloomed and faded last week. It’s been a long autumn and a good one for photography, but every year there’s going to be one pinkish bud that falls to wind and frost before it blooms. That’s just the way it is.
It’s hard to believe it’s only been a few days since there was a late afternoon white rose among the copper-green and yellow of this year’s datura.
