january thaw

As this winter seems to signal a return to the familiar weather patterns of the past (as opposed to last years endless months in the Dreaded Polar Vortex), we were pleased to see a good old fashioned January thaw today.  As it often is , it was accompanied by blue skies and thin, high, fast moving clouds.Polaroid CUBEPolaroid CUBEThe Polaroid Cube is an ideal camera for taking cockeyed photos of the sky.

I left at 6:00 this morning for my radio club’s swap meet in Farmington Hills, about 20 minutes away. As I entered the building, it was dark and bitterly cold. I spent the next seven hours in the gym, no windows, forgetting about the outside world. Thus, it was early afternoon when I stepped outside and was confronted by a scene like the one in your photos. It was really shocking. I mean, intellectually, I knew it was daytime. I guess I was just expecting gray skies and bitter cold, maybe. But it was nice. When I loaded the van, I didn’t even wear my hat!

These thaws are probably the most sincerely appreciated bits of weather of the whole year.
