- Young man: Yeah, Grandma made me and Zargon matching sweaters. What can you do?
- Zargon (thinking): I look good!
It was sort of a relief to find out that I am not finished with the “Pretty Good Dragons” series. This is the first time any of the PGDs has had a line, and its content is not surprising. Zargon, like all dragons, has a bit of an ego.
When (not if!) I do a finished version of this drawing, I will definitely put a lot of effort into drawing the sweaters. As it stands, I was already inking when I decided to put the dragon in a sweater, and that in turn suggested the joke. Since I didn’t really want to redraw the whole thing, I went with the tweedy, woolly pully effect that absorbed the lines I had already drawn. In the final drawing, I’ll know ahead of time that the sweaters are the whole point and I will pull out all the stops. Maybe they will be full on Fair Isle, or a variation on the classic reindeer sweater with dragons substituting for the reindeer.
