All the new Sherlock Holmes pastiches and reboots probably inspired this character, whose over sized pipe and lean, intelligent face mark him pretty clearly as a consulting detective.  Of course, the furry parts and the mysterious object he is holding also suggest a hint of fantasy, if not an outright magical background.  Oh, well.  Arcane investigators also have a long and honorable history in genre literature.  Perhaps this character (he’s almost certainly Doctor Somebody) practices both professions.

Somebody who saw this drawing pointed out that the pipe looks sort of mechanical and steampunkish.  Is it overkill to add a third genre?  This guy pretty high concept, and that’s without coming up with some kind of explanation for his unique physique.
