Here’s an exclusive internet preview of the cover for the dragon hunt sketchbook which I sincerely hope will debut at SPX. As you see, I am debating between three colors for one of the major elements of the front cover. Which one do you like best? Please comment or email– I really can’t decide.
There’s that old favorite, web safe tan:
and my own color, old paper tan, which is lighter and yellower:
I spent all day designing and pasting up this cover, then scanning it and coloring it on my ancient but loveable copy of Paintshop Pro. The line on the back cover is all that remains of a little poem that I really liked when I was writing it, but which was unbearably pretentious when set in type. And yes, there’s a stray scanner line that didn’t get erased!

I vote pink, but then again I always vote pink. Seriously though, I like how the pink is more contrasty with the eyes.
My thought was exactly the same: that the pink contrasts better with the orange of the eyes. Also, I like the way the pink pops out, kind of like the big purple gorilla on the cover of your mini of that name.
Pink. It’s the boldest. Second choice is the tan.
Thanks for the comments, everybody. I kinda like the pink myself, though other opinions here at world headquarters are strongly in favor of the tan. I’ve tentatively decided to proof both the tan and the pink, and make the final decision when I see what the color looks like in print. Because everybody knows that colors look way different on paper than they do on the screen. I’m going to print the final covers on cream colored paper, which adds another factor to the decision making. But I’m glad to see the pink getting some respect.
The plan for this color scheme was no gold and no green, since people always color dragons either gold or green and I wanted to do something different.
Thanks again!
Wonderful dragons! The blue one is my favorite! Good luck and have fun at SPX!
